Rotary club Intensifies Campaign for Polio Eradication in Ogun

As part of efforts to intensify Nigeria’s drive to sustain its polio-free status and promote community health,the Rotary Club of Abeokuta Royal has organised a one-day empowerment and medical outreach in Papalanto, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The one-day programme themed”End Polio Now” organised in partnership with the Solution Foundation, focused on promoting immunisation awareness, improving maternal and child health and providing succour to widows as well as free medical check- ups.

Speaking at the outreach, the Onipapa of Papalanto, Oba Rasak Famuyiwa, who commended the initiative, shared a personal experience of losing his daughter to polio due to lack of awareness , also described the programme as timely and vital in educating parents on the importance of vaccination and early healthcare.

In his remarks, the President of the Rotary Club of Abeokuta Royal and founder of the Solution Foundation, Mr. John Ogunmuyiwa, reaffirmed Rotary’s commitment to eradicating polio and promoting immunisation as a shared responsibility for a healthier society.

Mr. Ogunmuyiwa stressed that maternal and child health remain central to community wellbeing, noting that maternity care extends beyond childbirth to include regular medical attention, vaccinations and access to essential healthcare services.

The event also included the distribution of relief materials to widows, who expressed appreciation for what they described as a thoughtful act of compassion and genuine community support.
