Remo Stars secured their place in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, completing a 5-0 aggregate victory over Union Sportive de Zilimadjou of Comoros. The Nigerian champions won the second leg 1-0 in a cagey encounter at the MKO Abiola Sport Arena in Abeokuta.
The second leg was a tight contest with few clear chances for either side, remaining goalless until the 73rd minute. The deadlock was finally broken when US Zilimadjou’s Fezeu Ngamguem Gaetam was penalized for a handball in the box following a cross from Babawo. Alex Oyowah coolly converted the resulting penalty kick from 12 yards, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Following the match, Remo Stars Assistant Coach, Thiago Conde, was optimistic about the club’s chances, stating confidently that “every team is beatable in football.”
Remo Stars now face a stiff challenge in the second preliminary round against South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns. The first leg of the tie is scheduled for October 17, 2025.
