Police Arrest INEC Officials with Cash in Ogun By-Election

Police in Ogun State have confirmed the arrest of two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and a driver at Iperu-Remo during the Federal Constituency by-election.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola who made this known in a statement said the suspects were intercepted around 12:45 a.m. in a Mitsubishi Spacewagon with two point Five million naira in cash.

The PPRO claimed that one of the officials had confessed during interrogation, that the money was collected from a hotel in Iperu on the directive of a supervisor.

She disclosed that the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Ogunlowo had directed that the suspects should be transferred to the State CID, Eleweran, for discreet investigation.

The police spokesperson also assured the public of continuous monitoring of the election and promised to provide further updates on the investigations.
