Former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has accused the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun of using demolition and contravention notices as political weapon.
Speaking through his media aide, Mr. Steve Oliyide at a news conference in Sagamu, Ogun State, Otunba Daniel alleged that the notices recently pasted on three of his property by the state’s Ministry of Urban and Regional Planning were politically motivated.
The former Governor vowed to seek legal avenue and take necessary measures to safeguard the affected property against what he described as a deliberate attempt to stir political tension in Ogun State.
Otunba Daniel maintained that the present administration had no moral right to issue such notices when similar actions had not been taken against the Governor Abiodun’s private residence in Iperu, which, according to him, also contravened the building setback regulations.
The former Governor affirmed that his political future in 2027 would be determined by the people of Ogun State, adding that his supporters stood by him since 2003 and would continue to do so.
The news conference was witnessed by some former commissioners in the state, including a building specialist Akogun Kola Onadipe, who corroborated Otunba Daniel’s position that the government’s move was targeted and unjust.
Meanwhile, the State Government had earlier dismissed Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s claims, maintaining that the notices on his three property were part of an ongoing urban renewal audit in Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode GRAs, affecting many buildings, and not a targeted attack.
