Ogun State Government gives Flood Alert

By Oluwatoyin Adegoke

Ogun State Government has warned residents of possible flooding between 20th October and 3rd November ,2025, following the expected overflow of the Ogun River.

The situation, according to the government, was due to the controlled release of water from the Oyan Dam following heavy rainfall in the northern parts of the country and increased tidal levels

The affected areas include Akute, Alagbole, Isheri, Magboro, Makogi, Orimerunmu, Iro, Kajola and parts of Abeokuta such as Lafenwa, Enugada, Adedotun, Iberekodo, Akin-Olugbade and Ago-Odo,while urging residents in these locations to be on alert for rising water levels during the period.

Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya advised residents to move to higher grounds, avoid the riverbanks and safeguard their property against possible flooding and appealed to fish farmers in those affected areas to harvest their stock early to prevent avoidable losses.

Dr Oresanya gave an assurance that the state government remains proactive through continuous dredging of tributaries and collaboration with the Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority to manage water flow.

The Commissioner urged residents not to panic, stressing that the flood level was expected to subside within days as the government intensifies efforts to protect lives and property.
