The Ogun State government has sealed five companies and arrested some of their officials for allegedly assaulting law enforcement officers and state officials during an environmental enforcement exercise.
The affected firms, all located along the Ogere axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, are DL Plastics Limited, Dyschenghan Plastics, SH Agricultural Limited, Beautiful Fibre Limited, and Jincaicai Nigeria Limited.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority ,OGWAMA Mr Abayomi Hunye, said the companies repeatedly violated environmental regulations through improper waste disposal, waste burning and refusal to use government-approved waste collectors.
Mr Hunye who explained that the companies failed to respond to several letters, invitations and notices served on the firms for the past six months, noted that the companies broke government seals and chains placed on their gates.
He warned that Ogun State would not tolerate such lawlessness under the guise of investment, stressing that those involved would be prosecuted, adding the state remained committed to protecting the environment and public health.
