Labour Activist, Abiodun Aremu, Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident in Ogun

A foremost activist, Comrade Abiodun Aremu, who served as Secretary of the Joint Action Front ,JAF, has been killed by a hit-and-run driver while crossing the road to his residence in Ota, Ogun State.

The 65-year-old labour leader was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors tried to save his life, but he was later confirmed dead.

Comrade Aremu was earlier scheduled to be buried today,October 13th, However, following consultations, his family and the Labour Movement have shifted the burial to October 23 to allow for proper mobilisation and a befitting farewell.

A statement issued on behalf of Nigeria labour Movement , the Former General Secretary, Organisation of African Trade union unity, Comrade Owei Lakemfa, described Aremu’s death as a huge loss to the labour movement and the struggle for social justice,while extending condolences to the family and urged comrades nationwide to honour his legacy.

Comrade Lakemfa further described Aremu as one of the greatest revolutionaries of his time, noting that his leadership strengthened collaboration between workers and civil society through initiatives such as the Labour, Civil Society Coalition ,LASCO.
