Kwara United, Abia Warriors crash out of the CAF Confederation cup, as Rivers United advance

Kwara United has been knocked out of the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 5-3 on aggregate.

Following a narrow 4-3 defeat in the first leg, the Harmony Boys had everything to play for in the decisive second leg at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena. However, Kwara United will rue missed chances as Hubert Gyau of Asante Kotoko stunned the home fans in the 52nd minute after scoring a well worked goal to seal a 1-nill victory for the visitors at the MKO Abiola Sport Arena. Asante Kotoko’s disciplined defense proved crucial in securing this win.
This victory sets up a mouthwatering tie against Wydad AC of Morocco in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation cup.

In a similar fate, tournament debutants Abia Warriors also crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 1-0 in Bamako, Mali, resulting in a 2-1 aggregate defeat, ending Nigeria’s campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Rivers United advanced to the second Preliminary round of the CAF Champions league after defeating FC Les Aigles 1-0 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium after the first leg ended goalless. Rivers United will now face Black Bulls of Mozambique in the second preliminary round.
