The founder and Presiding bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission ,TREM, Dr. Mike Okonkwo, has been described as a national treasure whose influence extends far beyond the pulpit.
Governor Dapo Abiodun made this known during the 80th birthday thanksgiving service of the cleric held at TREM’s national headquarters in Gbagada, Lagos.
Governor Abiodun who was represented by the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, said the milestone was not only a celebration of a spiritual father but also of an elder statesman renowned for his courage, impeccable character and exemplary life.
According to him, Bishop Okonkwo was an icon, a father in the faith, a bridge builder and a true servant of God whose life had been purposeful, faithful and impactful.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting and recognising distinguished philanthropists such as Bishop Okonkwo for their invaluable contributions to humanity and for advancing the Building Our Future Together agenda.
He also encouraged Nigerians to celebrate genuine contributors to societal progress while they are still alive.
In his sermon, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye urged the congregation to emulate Bishop Okonkwo’s resilience, dedication and diligence in God’s service, stressing that diligence in prayer, worship, holiness and service leads to honour.
In his response, Bishop Okonkwo expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun, fellow ministers of God, his family, and the entire TREM community for celebrating his 80th birthday with him.
