Nigeria enters the 2025 AFCON quarterfinals with a flawless “four-for-four” record, having dismantled opponents with a staggering 12 goals—an average of three per game. This dominant run has shocked spectators who, fueled by the disappointment of Nigeria’s failed 2026 World Cup qualification, arrived in Morocco with low expectations, however, the Super Eagles have undergone a radical transformation.
Driven by a collective determination to redeem their image, the squad has shown a newfound resilience. This was perfectly personified by Victor Osimhen’s fiery competitiveness during the victory over Mozambique. Alongside Ademola Lookman and the breakout sensation Akor Adams, Nigeria’s frontline has become a “defensive alert” for every team in the tournament.
The Super eagles of Nigeria faces it’s most difficult hurdle at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations when they clash with the desert foxes of Algeria in the quarterfinals at the Stade de Marrakech, Tomorrow 10th January, 2026 at 5:00 PM Nigeria time.
With both teams mostly made up of foreign based players, it’s going to be a close call, with the most clinical team edging out the game. While the Moroccan stadium offers a home-like atmosphere for the Algerians, the lightning-fast pitch in Marrakesh is tailor-made for the pace of Osimhen and Lookman. If Nigeria can leverage their physical superiority in midfield and withstand Algeria’s tactical transitions, they may just fly into the semi-finals.
Going into this game the Super eagles of Nigeria will be mindful of the defensive prowess of the desert foxes having conceded a goal so far in the competition. Their ability to transition from a low block to a high-pressing system will pose a threat to the Super eagles of Nigeria.
We can only hope that officiating is top notch with Confederation of African Football, CAF, appointing highly respected Somali referee Omar Artan for the quarter-final fixture. Additionally, fans are well behaved.
